Otis Blue / Otis Redding Sings Soul by: Otis Redding
First Press Volt 1965

Otis Blue is a very cool Otis Redding record. It’s got Respect that he wrote of Aretha Franklin fame and he covers some great songs like A Change Is Gonna Come (Sam Cooke), My Girl (Smokey Robinson), Rock Me Baby ( B.B. King), even Satisfaction by the Stones.

This is a first pressing of Otis Blue from September 15, 1965. We love this record and it’s pretty sought after and can be valuable. The thing is, our copy has some funkiness going on so we decided to leave it up to ya’ll to decide how much it is. We’re going to start the auction at $10 and let the vinyl gods decide.

Like I said, this is a first pressing and the record is Stereo, however, the eagle-eyed among you may have noticed that the cover says Mono at the bottom. That’s because there’s a mismatch: the cover is a UK Mono, but the record is a US Stereo Monarch pressing.

I can’t imagine that someone swapped for a UK Mono cover thinking it could fetch more considering the shape it’s in. It has a sizable tear at the bottom that has been surgically fixed with tape. The record itself plays pretty well. We graded it VG and it has no major pops or skips but is kind of crackly throughout but not constant. We’ve listened to it multiple times and haven’t been distracted by the noise.

So if you’ve been looking for Otis Blue for a while and haven’t been able to track one down, here’s your shot at a stand-in until you can find that minty, pricey, copy. Or just buy it cuz it’s rad!
